Regis University is a private, co-educational Roman Catholic, Jesuit university in Denver, which is Colorado state's capital and most populous city, having a populaton of more than 600 000 inhabitants, approximated during the 2009 census, fact which also makes it the 24th most populous U.S. city. Regis was founded in 1877, by the Society of Jesus, and contains 3 colleges: The Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professionals, Regis College, and the College for Professional Studies. The name of Regis College was adopted in 1921, the institution being named so in honor of Saint John Francis Regis, in 1991, the university adopting its current name.
Today, Regis University has an enrollment of more than 1600 students, and offers educational programs in various fields of study. In addition to being recognized as an educational institution that offers quality education, the university also has a beautiful campus, which has been designated an arboretum, having more than 500 trees and shrubs, including three championship trees.
Regis' athletic teams are known as the Rangers, who compete in NCAA Division II, in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, in various sports, for both men and women, including in soccer, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, volleyball and golf. Their distinctive colors are blue and gold.
